Symmetric vs. Asymmetric Rotary Two Post Lifts
A symmetric lift and an asymmetric lift position the vehicle differently between the columns. That changes door clearance, arm approach and where the vehicle's center of gravity sits relative to the lift structure. It is a workflow and vehicle-fit decision, not a simple better-or-worse ranking.
The SPOA10 family is the main asymmetric choice in this collection. Rotary's SPO families, including SPO10, SPO12, SPO16 and SPO20, use symmetric lifting. Before deciding between them, check the actual vehicles' manufacturer-approved pickup points, arm reach, adapter requirements and weight distribution.
AV Arms, TRIO Arms and Drive-Over Pads Solve Different Problems
Arm design becomes increasingly important when one bay has to handle very different vehicles. Rotary's All-Vehicle arm systems are designed around greater reach and retraction, including access to lower or more particular pickup points. On the current 16K family, Rotary also offers longer Cargo AV Arms for longer-wheelbase cargo vehicles.
TRIO Arms use a three-stage arm with a sliding adapter so the technician can position the adapter at the pickup point without relying only on conventional arm movement. The SPO20 uses this architecture, and the collection also contains a 10K SPO10 TRIO configuration.
The SPOA7-MP takes another approach entirely. Its adjustable drive-over pads allow the vehicle to be spotted over the lift and engaged at the pad positions, making it a distinct quick-service choice rather than simply a lower-capacity version of the SPOA10.
10K, 12K, 16K or 20K?
Capacity should follow the actual vehicle mix. The 10K SPOA10 and SPO10 families cover the core of Rotary's light-duty two-post lineup represented here. The SPO12 adds capacity and longer-reaching arm configurations for larger vehicles. SPO16-AV Cargo moves further into long-wheelbase van and heavier fleet work, while the SPO20 is the highest-capacity two-post family in this collection.
Moving up in capacity also changes the physical lift. Column spacing, overall width, height, arm geometry and minimum bay requirements can increase, so buying extra capacity without checking the building can create a lift that is technically stronger but poorly matched to the bay.
Low Ceilings and Bay Dimensions
Rotary two-post lift dimensions are configuration-specific. Height and width options exist across several current families, and Rotary publishes low-ceiling configurations for heavier SPO models. The active SPO16-AV Cargo, for example, is offered in a low-ceiling format, while the SPO20 family has its own low-ceiling configuration.
Measure more than ceiling height. Check overall column width, drive-through clearance, inside-column spacing, overhead structure, vehicle roof height at full rise and the technician space needed around the bay. A lift that physically fits between the walls can still be a poor fit for the vehicles or work being performed.
Concrete, Power and Installation
Do not use one concrete requirement for every Rotary 2 post lift. Slab thickness, concrete strength, anchoring details and installation dimensions must come from the current installation documentation for the exact model and configuration being ordered.
The same rule applies to electrical requirements. Standard power and optional systems such as Shockwave can use different electrical arrangements. Confirm the selected part number, utilities and installation conditions before the lift is ordered or installation is scheduled.
