Calibration and sensor checks on board

The controls include sensor diagnosis and self calibration. An IN TES check tests the photocell and STA/DYN sensor; recalibration after long idle time or inaccurate results calls for a 100 g weight clipped at 12 o'clock.

A 6.5 inch shaft and four cones

The 36 mm diameter shaft extends 6.5 inches for wheel mounting. Four centering cones cover bores from 1-3/4 to 6-1/8 inches, and a speed nut holds the centered wheel.

Choose among three alloy weight layouts

AL1 places weights at the rim shoulders, AL2 hides the outer weight inside, and AL3 pairs an inner clip weight with the AL2 outer position. These positions let the operator select a layout that suits the alloy rim.

Position a wheel from either face

Positive positioning centers common steel or lightly deformed alloy rims with the mounting face inward. Negative positioning places the cone behind a wheel whose outside face is deformed, locating the steel rim by its center hole.

Inspect a correction below 5 g

An imbalance smaller than the standard 5 g weight displays as 00. The high accuracy key reveals the inner or outer residual value under 5 g, with maximum residual imbalance of 4 g.

Enter three wheel measurements

Pull the scale to the inner weight position for distance, measure width with the caliper, and key in rim diameter. Those inputs set the balancing geometry before the BL-917 spins.

Best For

Independent garages
Daily car and light truck work in an independent garage draws on the four-cone mounting set and alloy modes as wheel designs change across appointments.
Tire centers
A tire center handling a run of car and light truck wheels can use the short spin cycle for routine work and on-board checks when readings need investigation.
Versatile service bays
A versatile service bay can balance car wheels through static or dynamic modes and add occasional motorcycle jobs with MOT, once the optional MJ-II adaptor and extension scale are on hand.

Installation Requirements

Grounded 120V supply

Provide 120V, single phase, 60 Hz power for a 1/6 HP, 5 A machine. The connection needs a grounded socket, fuse and 30 mA leakage breaker, with electrical work done by qualified personnel.

Clearance on three sides

Plan a 44 by 50 inch floor area with 68 inches of height for the BL-917. Keep more than 600 mm, about 24 inches, open on both sides and behind the balancer.

Solid floor, dry indoor location

Use a flat, solid floor able to carry the machine and its maximum wheel load. The location must have no risk of dripping water; operating conditions are 32 to 122 degrees F and 30 to 80% relative humidity.

Warranty

Daytona 5 2 1 Limited Warranty

Coverage starts on the date of the purchase invoice: 5 years on structural components, 2 years on power units, cylinders, and seal kits, and 1 year on all other defective parts. Daytona replaces parts that prove defective on inspection and pays the freight on covered replacement parts shipped within the continental US.

Conditions

Coverage applies to the original owner and is not transferable. Equipment must be installed and used indoors and maintained as its manual directs. Wear parts such as cables, hoses, slider blocks, chains, and rubber pads are excluded, as are labor, service calls, normal maintenance, cosmetic blemishes, and damage from improper installation, overloading, or modification.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Daytona BL-917 run without a hood?
Without a hood, the operator starts a spin with the control panel's start key. The optional hood can be fitted to the machine. Once it is fitted, the program setup's protective cover on or off setting controls whether lowering it starts a spin.
What does motorcycle work require on the Daytona BL-917?
Motorcycle mode requires the optional MJ-II adaptor, which is not part of the standard kit. Measure the mounted wheel with the extension scale and key in the values as you would for a car wheel.
What if the center bore exceeds the Daytona BL-917 cones?
A larger center bore may require the optional large cone or flange disk. The flange disk provides a mounting method for big tire assemblies.
What is the difference between static and dynamic balancing on the Daytona BL-917?
On the Daytona BL-917, dynamic (DYN) mode uses clip-on weights at the inner and outer rim flanges, while static (ST) mode uses one stick-on weight in the rim center. The machine starts in standard dynamic mode, indicated by no mode light being lit.
Can the Daytona BL-917 show ounces instead of grams?
Yes. The imbalance display can use grams or ounces, while rim width and diameter can be entered in inches or millimeters. The APP setting chooses 1 g or 5 g rounding, and the beeper can be switched off.
