Coats APS 3000 Leverless Tilt-Back Tire Changer Machine

You've got a bay full of expensive alloy wheels, low-profile rubber, and run-flats, and you can't afford a scratched rim or a bent bead. The Coats APS 3000 is built for exactly that work. It's a leverless tilt back tire changer that swaps the old pry bar for a duckhead bead lifting tool, so the metal that used to gouge a customer's wheel never touches the rim. As the top of the Coats APS line, this coats tire changer machine is the one you reach for when the wheels coming through your door are difficult, delicate, or worth more than the job ticket.

The leverless duckhead automatically offsets from the rim to keep its distance, and the center post clamping system locks wheels down fast with minimal effort. Pair that with an integrated wheel lift that takes the heavy assemblies off your back, and you've got a coats tire changing machine that protects both your inventory and your techs. Individually operated power roller discs handle bead loosening and even demount the lower bead without a tire tool.

This center post machine services single-piece automotive and most tubeless light truck tire and wheel assemblies, and it handles new-generation rubber, self-supporting run-flats and low-profile UHP tires, on steel and light alloy rims alike. Other tire types, including tube-type agricultural, require special handling, and tires classified as truck tires must follow OSHA standard 1910.177.

Installation & Setup

Plan your floor space before the freight arrives. The machine needs a flat, smooth, non-slip floor with suitable load capacity, plus clearance around it so every part can operate without restriction. It doesn't have to be anchored, but if you want it bolted down, the rear base accepts metal anchor dowels through holes drilled with a 10 mm bit.

On the power side, this is a 230V single-phase unit. The site needs proper grounding and an automatic differential 20A circuit breaker. If your machine ships without a plug, you'll install a 20A plug rated for the voltage that meets current code. Compressed air comes in through the quick disconnect at the rear, with a minimum supply of 116 psi. Electrical work should be done by qualified personnel, and the unit should always be unplugged from both electrical and pneumatic supplies before moving or servicing.

Applications

High-End Alloy and Custom Wheel Shops

When every wheel on the rack is worth protecting, the leverless duckhead and plastic protections keep delicate alloy rims free of the gouges a pry bar leaves behind.

Performance and Specialty Tire Work

Self-supporting run-flats and low-profile UHP tires are notoriously stubborn. The power roller discs and bead pressing arm tame them without fighting the sidewall.

Light Truck and Tubeless Service

Services single-piece automotive and most tubeless light truck assemblies, with an optional truck cone kit for VAN and LCV wheels.

High-Volume Shops Watching Their Techs

The integrated wheel lift carries heavy assemblies so your crew isn't hoisting wheels all day, cutting back strain and the downtime that comes with it.

Warranty

As an APS Series tire changer, the APS 3000 carries a 1-year parts warranty and 6 months labor. Air-operated cylinder components, valves, seal kits, rotary coupling, rubber hoses, and air lines are covered for 1 year on machines placed in service after January 1, 2014. The transmission carries a 5-year warranty, pro-rated after three years.

Coverage begins on the date of delivery to the first retail buyer or the date of first use, whichever comes first. Air-operated components must be supplied with clean, dry air; failures from air system contamination are not covered, and this warranty does not apply to machines used in commercial production environments. Wear items such as nylon mount/demount heads, drive belts, bead loosener pads, and rubber pad inserts are excluded.

Warranty registration may be required after purchase. Refer to included documentation for details.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size wheels can the APS 3000 handle?

The clamping range runs from 12" to 34", with a maximum rim width of 16" and a maximum wheel diameter of 47". That covers passenger cars, most tubeless light truck assemblies, and oversized custom wheels.

Does it really work without tire levers?

Yes. The leverless duckhead bead lifting tool replaces traditional tire tools and automatically offsets from the rim. The power roller discs even demount the lower bead without a tire tool, so the metal that used to scratch rims never makes contact.

Can it service run-flat and low-profile tires?

It handles all low-profile UHP tires and self-supporting (reinforced side) run-flats on steel and light alloy rims. The bead pressing arm and roller discs make these stubborn tires far easier to work. Run-flats with internal support rings need their dedicated accessories.

What power and air does it need?

It runs on 230V single-phase, 50/60 Hz, and needs a compressed air supply of at least 116 psi, with operating pressure between 116 and 145 psi. The site should have proper grounding and a 20A circuit breaker.

Does it have to be bolted to the floor?

No. It can sit on any flat, smooth, non-slip floor with suitable load capacity. If you prefer to anchor it, the rear base accepts metal anchor dowels through holes drilled with a 10 mm bit.

How heavy is the machine and how much space does it need?

Net weight is 870 lb (395 kg), and overall dimensions are 47" x 51" x 70". Leave clearance around all sides so every part can operate without restriction.

Does it help with heavy wheels?

Yes. The integrated wheel lift carries heavy assemblies onto the clamping chuck with a 176 lb (80 kg) lift capacity, cutting back strain for your techs and reducing the risk of dropping an expensive wheel.

Can it handle TPMS-equipped wheels?

Yes. The machine is designed to work around TPMS sensors, with specific valve clock positions for each bead loosening, mounting, and demounting step so the sensor isn't damaged during service.

What's the warranty?

As an APS Series tire changer, it carries a 1-year parts warranty with 6 months labor, plus a 5-year transmission warranty (pro-rated after three years). Coverage starts at delivery to the first buyer or first use.

How is it shipped?
