AFF 862ASD: 150 Ton Super Duty Shop Press

You're pressing bearings off heavy equipment axles, straightening structural steel, and pulling apart press-fit assemblies that smaller units can't touch. The American Forge & Foundry Super Duty Shop Press in the 862ASD gives you 150 tons of hydraulic force in a fully welded frame that won't flex or shift under max load. This is the top of AFF's heavy duty shop press lineup, and it's built for shops where half-measures aren't an option.

The dual-speed air motor gets the ram to the workpiece fast, then automatically shifts to high-pressure mode once contact is made. You can also run it manually with the pump handle when you need precision over speed. A glycerin-filled gauge reads your pressing force in real time, so you're never guessing how much load you're putting on a part. Overload protection is built in, keeping you and the press out of trouble if something binds up.

Seven bed height positions and a lateral head adjuster give you a working range from about 2.67" to 35". That kind of flexibility means you're not shimming, stacking plates, or fighting the setup just to get a part centered under the ram. The heavy duty cable winch with a non-slip safety clutch makes raising and lowering the bed frame something one person can handle, even at this size. A shatter-resistant polycarbonate shield covers the work area, because at 150 tons, flying debris isn't a hypothetical.

This 150 ton hydraulic press ships with a 10-piece pin and bearing adapter set, a 2-piece press plate set, and all the hardware you need for assembly. Replacement parts are available direct, and we ship free to the lower 48. If you need a large hydraulic press that earns its floor space every day, this is the one.

Installation & Key Setup Notes

At 2,645 lbs shipping weight, you'll need a forklift to move and position this press. Plan your floor space accordingly: AFF recommends a clear working area of roughly 30 feet in front of and behind the unit during operation.

Before First Use

Anchor the press to the floor with anchor bolts on a firm, level surface. Clean the machine thoroughly, then add a teaspoon of quality air tool lubricant into the air supply inlet of the lift control valve. Connect air supply and operate for 3 seconds to distribute lubricant evenly.

Air Requirements

Connect your air supply via the 1/4" NPT inlet. Required pressure is 120 to 200 PSI (7.5 to 8.5 Bar). The foot pedal controls air-powered ram extension and retraction.

Air Purge (Required After Assembly)

After connecting air, you'll need to purge the hydraulic system before pressing. The manual walks you through a specific sequence using the selector valve positions and foot pedal. Run the purge cycle for both the air pump and manual pump, repeating three times to ensure all air is cleared from the system.

Adapter Capacity Note: Each adapter in the included press adapter set has its own maximum rated capacity based on size. Do not use any adapter beyond its rated capacity, even though the press itself is rated for 150 tons.

Applications

This press was built for shops that deal with heavy components day in and day out. If you're running an automotive or truck repair operation, you already know how many jobs need serious pressing force: wheel bearings on heavy-duty axles, u-joints on full-size driveshafts, kingpins, bushings on large suspension components. The 862ASD handles all of it without strain.

Fleet maintenance and industrial repair shops get the most out of a 150 ton press. Straightening bent frames, reforming brackets, pressing gears and shafts on equipment that weighs thousands of pounds. The 39" bed width and 25" throat give you room to work with oversized parts that would be a nightmare on anything smaller.

Agricultural and heavy equipment dealers, fabrication shops doing forming and bending work, and implement repair facilities will all find this press pulling its weight. If you've been getting by with a 75 or 100 ton shop press and running into jobs that push your limits, the 862ASD gives you headroom you won't outgrow.
