American Forge and Foundry 859ASD - 100 Ton Hydraulic Press Built for Serious Shop Work

You're pulling bearings, pressing in bushings, and straightening shafts all day. Your press can't be the thing that slows you down. The American Forge and Foundry 859ASD is a 100 ton hydraulic press with a fully welded frame and heavier gauge steel than standard duty units, so it holds up to the kind of sustained, heavy use that lighter presses buckle under.

What sets this heavy duty shop press apart is the dual air motor system. Both motors fire simultaneously for fast ram extension when you're not under load. Once the ram contacts the work piece, the high-pressure motor takes over automatically for controlled, precise pressing. You can also run the whole thing manually with the dual-pump handle if you need finer control or don't have air hooked up. The 11.58" ram stroke gives you the working range to handle oversized jobs without repositioning, and the lateral head adjuster lets you shift the ram side to side so you're not constantly moving the work piece to center it.

AFF built overload protection into this unit, and the large glycerin-filled pressure gauge gives you a steady, accurate read on pressing force without the needle bounce you get from dry gauges. A shatter-resistant polycarbonate shield comes standard, covering the work area against flying debris. Seven bed height positions and a heavy-duty cable winch mean you can reposition the bed quickly between jobs without fighting it.

This American Forge and Foundry hydraulic press ships with a 2-piece press plate set and a 10-piece pin and bearing adapter set, so you're ready to work the day it arrives. If you need replacement parts, accessories, or just want to talk through your setup, Garage Supply Guys has you covered with direct support.

Installation & Setup

Floor Requirements

At 1,476 lbs shipping weight, this press needs a stable, level surface capable of sustaining the full load. AFF recommends anchoring the unit to the floor with anchor bolts before first use. Make sure you've got adequate lighting and at least 10 meters of clearance in front of and behind the press during operation.

Assembly

The ram assembly, oil tank, pressure gauge, lateral adjuster, and cable winch come pre-installed in the body frame. You'll need to bolt the bases, supports, and pump assembly to the frame using the included hardware. The working bed is positioned using the cable winch and locked into place with pins and circlips across seven height positions.

Air Connection

Connect your shop air line to the 1/4" NPT inlet on the air foot valve. This unit requires 120 to 200 PSI. Before your first use, add a teaspoon of quality air tool lubricant into the air supply inlet of the lift control valve, connect air, and run it for about 3 seconds to distribute the lubricant evenly.

Hydraulic Oil and Air Purge

After connecting the oil supply hose to the pump assembly, open the oil tank valve and check for leaks. You'll need to purge air from the hydraulic system before the first press cycle. This can be done manually, with the high-pressure plunger, or by air. Full air purge procedures are covered in the included operator manual.

A forklift or proper lifting equipment is required for unpacking and positioning. Do not attempt to move this press by hand.

Applications

Bearing and Bushing Work

Press bearings in and out of housings, pull stubborn bushings, and seat new ones with precision. The 10-piece adapter set covers a range of sizes right out of the box.

Shaft Straightening

Bent axle shafts, drive shafts, and other long components sit comfortably in the 31" bed width. The lateral head adjuster lets you position the ram exactly where the correction needs to happen.

Pressing and Forming

Assembly, riveting, forming, and sizing small to mid-size parts in production or repair environments. The glycerin gauge gives you real-time force feedback so you don't overshoot.

Fleet and Industrial Maintenance

Automotive, trucking, heavy equipment, and industrial repair shops that need a heavy duty hydraulic press machine running day in and day out without downtime.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the AFF 859ASD run on air only, or can I operate it manually?

Both. The 859ASD has a dual-pump system with air and manual operation. When connected to shop air (120-200 PSI through a 1/4" NPT fitting), the air foot valve drives both motors for fast extension. You can also operate entirely by hand using the high-pressure and low-pressure pump sockets with the included handle tube. You can even combine air and manual high-pressure operation simultaneously for maximum control.

What kind of floor or foundation do I need for this press?

You'll need a stable, level concrete surface capable of supporting the full weight of the press plus your work pieces. AFF recommends anchoring the unit to the floor with anchor bolts before use. Make sure you have adequate clearance around the press for safe operation.

What's included for pressing adapters, or do I need to buy those separately?

The 859ASD ships with a 2-piece press plate set and a 10-piece pin and bearing press adapter set. Each adapter in the set has its own maximum capacity rating based on size, so check the adapter ratings before use. You're ready to handle a range of common pressing jobs right out of the box.
