75 Ton Hydraulic Press - American Forge & Foundry 856ASD

When your shop is pushing bearings, pressing axles, or straightening heavy components day in and day out, you need a press that can keep pace without fighting you. The AFF 856ASD is a 75 ton hydraulic press built from the ground up for serious shop work. Fully welded steel frame, a double-pump air motor for faster cycle speeds, and a 9-3/4" ram stroke give you the reach and raw force to handle the jobs that matter most. This is the american forge and foundry hydraulic press that shops actually run in production.

Flexibility is where the 856ASD earns its keep. The 7-position bed height configuration lets you dial in your working height without the usual hassle, and the heavy-duty cable winch makes raising and lowering the bed effortless. The lateral head adjuster gives you smooth side-to-side movement of the press head so you can reposition without breaking down your whole setup. Less time fussing with the machine means more time getting work done.

Safety and control aren't afterthoughts here. The glycerin-filled pressure gauge shows you exactly how much force you're applying in real time, and built-in overload protection keeps you from pushing past safe limits. The shatter-resistant polycarbonate shield guards you and anyone nearby from flying debris, which matters when you're pressing unknown components or working under load. This heavy duty hydraulic press machine is ready for the kind of work that puts lesser equipment on the shelf.

It ships free to the lower 48, arrives ready for assembly by qualified personnel, and comes with everything you need to get pressing from day one. If you're comparing a heavy duty hydraulic press for sale and want to talk tonnage, accessories, or fit for your shop, the team here is a call away.

Installation & Setup

Site Requirements

The 856ASD is a 1,030 lb press that requires proper lifting equipment for positioning. It must be installed on a firm, level, dry surface with adequate lighting and enough clear working space. Before first use, anchor the press to the floor using appropriate anchor bolts. Do not operate this press on any surface that cannot safely support the load.

Assembly Overview

This press ships partially disassembled for freight. Assembly involves mounting the bed frame to the posts, attaching the foot sections and support to the connecting plates, installing the pressure gauge with the nylon ring and gauge fitting, and assembling the pump with the provided hardware. The oil hoses connect the pump assembly to the ram and gauge fitting using the included o-rings. The hand winch mounts to the outside of the post using the provided bolt and washer hardware. Full step-by-step instructions are in the included manual.

Air Supply and Pre-Use Prep

Connect your shop air to the 1/4" NPT inlet. Required pressure is 0.75 to 0.85 MPa (109 to 123 PSI). Before the first use, add a teaspoon of quality air tool lubricant into the air supply inlet, connect air, and run for 3 seconds to distribute it. You'll also need to purge air from the hydraulic system before pressing - open the release valve counterclockwise, connect the air supply hose to the foot-operated control valve, and depress it several times until air is cleared from the system. Check all hardware for tightness before operation.

Installation must be performed by qualified personnel. This press is intended for use by operators who are technically competent and familiar with hydraulic press safety practices. Read and follow all instructions in the included manual before operating.

Applications

The 856ASD is the right call for shops that handle a wide range of heavy pressing tasks. Here's where it fits best.

Automotive and Truck Repair

Press bearings, bushings, wheel hubs, ball joints, and U-joints with consistent, controlled force. The 7-position bed and lateral adjuster let you line up awkward components without fighting your setup.

Fleet and Equipment Maintenance

Heavy equipment shops and fleet operations that deal with large axle and drivetrain components will put the full 75 tons to work. The cable winch and wide bed width handle oversized workpieces without compromise.

Fabrication and Assembly

Press, rivet, size, and assemble parts in a production or manufacturing environment. The double-pump air motor keeps cycle times tight when throughput matters.

Bending, Straightening, and Forming

The included press plate set and 10 pc adapter set give you the versatility to bend and form metal components. The glycerin gauge lets you apply precise load and back off before you overdo it.

This is a 75 ton air hydraulic shop press suited for professional automotive, truck, fleet, and industrial repair facilities. It is not intended for home hobby use or spring compression.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the 856ASD require a shop air compressor, or can it be operated manually?

The 856ASD is designed primarily as a 75 ton air hydraulic shop press and connects to shop air via a 1/4" NPT inlet at 0.75 to 0.85 MPa (109 to 123 PSI). That said, it also includes a volume plunger handle and a pressure plunger handle for full manual operation. You can use the volume handle to advance the ram to your workpiece quickly, then switch to the pressure handle for controlled load application - no air required if your setup doesn't have it.

What is the full working height range on the 856ASD press bed?

The press bed on the 856ASD adjusts across 7 positions with a total working range of 68 mm to 884 mm (approximately 2-11/16" to 34-3/4"). Adjustment is handled by the heavy-duty cable winch. Raise or lower the bed to the desired position, then insert all four press bed pins fully through the bed and legs, and lock them in place with the locking circlips before applying any load.

Does this press need to be bolted to the floor?

Yes. The manual specifies that before first use, the press must be anchored to the floor using appropriate anchor bolts. The surface must be firm, level, and capable of sustaining the press load. At 1,030 lbs shipping weight and 75 tons of pressing capacity, proper anchoring is a safety requirement - not optional.

What does the 1-year warranty cover on this press?

American Forge & Foundry's limited warranty covers defects in material and workmanship for one year from purchase. If the press is found defective during that period, AFF will repair or replace it at no charge when shipped prepaid with proof of purchase to AFF or an authorized service depot. The warranty does not cover damage from accident, overload, abuse, or use of non-recommended attachments. For warranty questions, call us at (855) 498-2147.

Q: Does the 856ASD require shop air or can it run manually? A: It connects to shop air at 109-123 PSI via 1/4" NPT, but also includes volume and pressure plunger handles for full manual operation.
