American Forge and Foundry 50 Ton Shop Press - Model 837

When a standard-duty press starts slowing your shop down, it's time to move up. The American Forge & Foundry 50 ton shop press is built for shops that can't afford a bottleneck at the press - heavy-duty truck repair, spring shops, or any production environment where you're pressing bearings, bushings, U-joints, and axle components all day. Heavier gauge steel throughout means this thing handles the work your old press was never rated for.

The two-speed hand pump gets the ram where it needs to go fast, so you're not cranking away before the real work even starts. Switch to the air/hydraulic pump and pressing becomes effortless - overload protection keeps you from going past the unit's rated capacity. You get a frame-mounted hydraulic pressure gauge so you can see exactly what you're working with, not just guess. Seven winch-operated bed adjustment levels mean you can position your work precisely without fighting the press to get there.

At 68" tall with a 44" base, the AFF Model 837 is a serious floor press that takes up serious floor space - but you get 32" of post opening and a 7" ram stroke in return. This isn't a light-use tool. It's a production-grade hydraulic shop press rated at 50 tons, and it ships at 672 lbs. to prove it.

Order through us and it ships free to the lower 48. Questions before you buy? Call us directly - we keep the process simple and we know these units.

Installation & Setup

The Model 837 arrives at 672 lbs., so plan your receiving setup ahead of time - you'll want a loading dock, pallet jack, or forklift available when it lands. Position it on a solid, level concrete floor capable of handling the weight and the press forces you'll be applying.

The air/hydraulic pump requires a shop air connection to operate in air-assist mode. Standard shop air supply lines are compatible. The two-speed hand pump works independently of shop air, so you can operate the press manually if needed. No electrical hookup is required.

The press bed is adjusted via the onboard winch across seven height positions. Before first use, confirm all mounting hardware is fully secured and verify the pressure gauge reads correctly at rest.

Applications

Heavy-Duty Truck & Fleet Repair

Bearing, bushing, and U-joint work on heavy trucks demands a press rated for the job. The 50-ton capacity handles axle components and suspension parts that would overload a lighter unit.

Spring Shops

Spring disassembly and reassembly puts serious demand on a press. The air/hydraulic operation keeps fatigue low when you're running these jobs back to back all day.

Industrial Manufacturing & Fabrication

Production environments that need consistent pressing force benefit from the pressure gauge and overload protection. You can repeat operations with confidence and without worrying about exceeding rated capacity.

High-Volume General Repair Shops

If you've outgrown a light-duty press and you're pressing wheel bearings, ball joints, and differential components regularly, this is the step-up that eliminates the slowdowns and the second-guessing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need shop air to operate this press, or does the hand pump work on its own?

Both options work independently. The two-speed hand pump operates the press without any air connection - it gets the ram moving quickly to load position and then delivers pressing force manually. The air/hydraulic pump is a second option that makes operation nearly effortless and is ideal for high-volume use. If you have shop air, use it. If you don't, the hand pump still gets the job done at 50 tons of capacity.

How does the press bed adjust and how many positions are available?

The press bed uses an onboard winch to raise and lower through seven adjustment levels. The space interval between positions is 5-1/2", and the bed rail opening is 9". This gives you enough range to accommodate most truck and industrial components without needing additional risers or blocks in most situations.

Does this ship for free, and how does delivery work on a 672-lb. press?

Yes - free shipping to the lower 48 states is included. At 672 lbs., this unit ships freight on a pallet. You'll want a loading dock, pallet jack, or forklift available for receiving.
