American Forge and Foundry Axle Jack - Model 548SD

You're pulling axles on class 8 trucks, ag equipment, or military rigs, and you need a jack that won't bleed down under serious tonnage. The AFF 548SD is a 60/40/20 ton three-stage air hydraulic axle jack built for exactly that. Three stages give you flexibility across a wide capacity range without swapping tools. Whether you're servicing a loaded trailer or a lighter fleet vehicle, this American Forge and Foundry jack covers it with one unit.

What separates this from cheaper hydraulic axle jacks is what's happening inside the cylinder. The piston head seal borrows from industrial hydraulic technology, giving you a tighter seal at both low and high pressure. That means better hold under severe loads, less creep, and more confidence when you're working underneath. Double polished chromed pistons tighten up tolerances, reduce oil bypassing, and resist ram scoring over thousands of cycles. These aren't marketing claims. AFF tests every unit from -13°F to +113°F and under off-center loading to make sure it holds up in conditions most shops would consider extreme.

The 54-inch handle locks in three positions so you can maneuver this air hydraulic axle jack into tight spots without fighting it. Integral descent metering keeps the load controlled on the way down, not just the way up. Air-assisted lowering speeds up ram retraction between jobs. And a built-in overload safety valve protects the unit if someone accidentally exceeds capacity. You get two extensions (3" and 1.75") plus a saddle adapter right out of the box. If you're comparing this American Forge and Foundry axle jack against other options in the 60 ton axle jack class, the 548SD is the one that doesn't cut corners where it counts.

Replacement parts are available direct through us, and we keep stock on seal kits, piston sets, and cylinder assemblies so you're not waiting weeks if something needs attention down the road. That's the advantage of buying from a shop equipment dealer who actually supports what they sell.

What's Included

  • AFF 548SD Axle Jack Unit
  • 75 mm (3") Extension
  • 45 mm (1.75") Extension
  • Saddle Adapter

Installation & Setup

You'll need a compressed air supply capable of delivering between 116 and 174 PSI. Connect the included air hose kit to your shop air line, and you're ready to go. The handle locks in three positions, so adjust it based on your approach angle before rolling the jack into place. At 161 lbs, this is a heavy unit. The built-in wheel assembly helps with positioning, but plan on having a solid, level surface under it when you're working at full capacity.

No electrical hookup or special mounting is required. This is a portable air axle jack that goes wherever your shop air reaches.

Applications

Heavy Duty Trucking

Service axles on class 7 and class 8 trucks with the 60-ton first stage. Three stages let you match capacity to the job without switching jacks between trailer and tractor work.

Agricultural Equipment

Farm machinery runs hard in dust, mud, and temperature extremes. This axle air lift jack is tested from -13°F to +113°F, so it performs in the conditions ag shops actually deal with.

Fleet Maintenance

When you're running through multiple vehicles a day, air-assisted lowering and fast ram retraction cut cycle time between jobs. One under axle air jack handles the full range of your fleet.

Construction & Military

Overloaded safety valves and single-piece base construction keep things stable and protected on jobsites and in field conditions where the work surface isn't always ideal.

Model Comparison - AFF Super Duty Axle Jack Series

The 548SD sits in the middle of AFF's Super Duty lineup. If your shop handles a mix of heavy and medium-duty work, this three-stage design gives you the widest coverage from a single unit. Here's how it stacks up against the rest of the series, including options like the 80 50 ton 2 stage air hydraulic axle jack for heavier-only applications.

Model Capacity Stages Best For
545SD 30/15 Ton 2 Medium-duty trucks, lighter fleet vehicles
546SD 25/10 Ton 2 Light to medium-duty service, similar range to a mahle 25 ton air axle jack
548SD (This Model) 60/40/20 Ton 3 Full-range heavy duty, ag, construction, military
549SD 80/50 Ton 2 Maximum capacity heavy-duty applications

Looking for something in a different capacity range? We also carry options like the AFF 544 44-ton air hydraulic axle jack and models comparable to the American Forge 565E 22 ton air hydraulic axle jack. Call us and we'll match the right unit to your shop's workload.

Frequently Asked Questions

What air pressure do I need to run the AFF 548SD?

You'll need a compressed air supply delivering between 116 and 174 PSI (0.8 to 1.2 MPa). Most shop compressors in heavy-duty environments already meet this requirement. The jack connects via the included air hose kit.

Can I get replacement parts for this jack?

Yes. AFF manufactures replacement parts for the 548SD including seal kits, piston sets, complete cylinder assemblies, handle assemblies, pneumatic pump assemblies, and more. We stock commonly needed parts and can order anything in the AFF parts catalog. Call us at (855) 498-2147 to check availability.

How does the three-stage design work compared to a two-stage jack?

The three stages give you three distinct capacity and lift ranges from one unit. The first stage delivers 60 tons with 3.03" of lift, the second stage delivers 40 tons with 5.79" of lift, and the third stage delivers 20 tons with 9.02" of lift. A two-stage jack only gives you two capacity options, so you get less flexibility when your shop handles a wide mix of vehicle weights.

Does this ship fully assembled?

The jack ships with the handle, air hose kit, extensions, and saddle adapter. Some minor assembly of these components is required, but no special tools or installation is needed. Connect your air supply and you're working.

Is this jack rated for cold weather use?

Yes. AFF tests the 548SD from -13°F (-25°C) to +113°F (+45°C), as well as under off-center loading conditions. It's suitable for unheated shops, outdoor field service, and extreme temperature environments.
