American Forge & Foundry 3182 Powertrain Lift Table - 2,500 lb Capacity
When you're dropping a transmission or pulling an engine, the last thing you need is a lift that makes the job harder. The American Forge & Foundry 3182 powertrain lift table carries 2,500 lbs and covers the full range of drivetrain work - transmissions, engines, transaxles, fuel tanks, and large EV battery packs. It lifts from 33" all the way to 77", then doubles as a work surface so you can bring the load back down to a comfortable height for on-site teardown or repair. Whether you need an engine lift table, a transmission jack table, or a stable platform for component work, the 3182 handles all of it without rolling in a second piece of equipment.
The scissor-lift design opens up all four sides of the component, so you're never locked into one angle when you're torquing fasteners or making adjustments mid-job. The air/hydraulic foot pump runs off shop air on a 9-foot extension - you can position yourself anywhere around the lift and keep both hands free the whole time. Whether you call it a powertrain table lift or a transmission table jack, the 3182 covers the jobs you'd normally need both a dedicated american forge and foundry transmission jack and a separate work stand for. And if you've been comparing it against a norco powertrain lift table or an otc powertrain lift table, the AFF 3182 holds its own on capacity, reach, and day-to-day usability at this price point.
Safety isn't an afterthought here. Mechanical latches engage at 30%, 50%, and 80% of max height, keeping the load locked in place if pressure drops or something goes wrong mid-lift. A built-in safety overload system prevents the lift from being used beyond its rated capacity. Eight-inch swivel casters make positioning fast and easy under heavy loads, and the rear wheels lock down when you need the unit to stay planted. It meets current ASME/PALD standards for this class of powertrain lift tables.

Installation & Setup
Air Supply Requirements
The AFF 3182 runs on shop air at 100 PSI. You'll need a standard air compressor with a compatible air fitting to operate the foot pump. The 9-foot extension hose gives you plenty of reach to position the pump wherever it's most comfortable without moving the compressor alongside you.
Positioning and Floor Setup
No permanent installation is required - the lift is self-contained and fully mobile. The 8-inch swivel casters roll easily on flat shop floors. Before loading any component, position the lift under your work area and lock the rear wheels to prevent rolling during the lift cycle. Secure the component to the table surface using the included ratchet tie downs before raising. Always verify the component weight is within the 2,500 lb rated capacity before operating.
Safety Latch Operation
Mechanical safety latches automatically engage at 30%, 50%, and 80% of max lift height. These are passive safety locks - they engage on their own and hold the load at those intervals without any action from you. If you need to reposition or stop mid-lift, the latches keep the table from descending unexpectedly.
Applications
The AFF 3182 is a true automotive powertrain lift table that covers far more than a single job type. Here's where it earns its place in the shop.
Pull and install automatic and manual transmissions without a second set of hands. The included tie downs hold the transmission steady while you position and bolt it up, and the scissor design gives you access from any angle.
Use it as an engine table lift when you need to lower the powerplant out from underneath. The full 33" to 77" height range gives you the reach and control to manage the drop cleanly.
Large electric vehicle battery modules are heavy and awkward. The wide table surface and ratchet tie downs make EV battery removal and installation manageable without improvised support equipment.
Transaxles, differentials, and transfer cases all fit the scope of this lift. If it's a heavy drivetrain component that needs to come out or go back in, the 3182 handles it within its 2,500 lb rating.
Support and lower fuel tanks safely without relying on a floor jack and improvised blocking. The controlled foot-pump descent keeps the tank steady and level through the full removal process.
Lower removed components to a comfortable working height for teardown, inspection, or rebuild. It works as a transmission table jack and a dedicated work platform in one unit - no separate stand needed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the AFF 3182 require shop air to operate?
Yes. The foot pump is an air/hydraulic design that requires 100 PSI shop air. It connects via a 9-foot extension hose, so you can position yourself anywhere around the lift while keeping both hands free during the lift cycle.
Can this be used as a stationary work table, not just a lift?
Yes. Once a component is removed, you can lower it to a comfortable working height and use the table surface for teardown, inspection, or repair work. The scissor design keeps all four sides of the component accessible, and the tie downs keep it secured while you work.
What types of components can the AFF 3182 handle?
It handles transmissions, engines, transaxles, fuel tanks, and large electric vehicle battery packs - anything within its 2,500 lb capacity rating. It's a full automotive powertrain lift table, not a single-purpose transmission jack, so it covers the range of heavy drivetrain and underhood components your shop works on.
Do tie downs come included to secure the load?
Yes. Two heavy-duty ratchet tie downs are included and are sized for the 20" x 30" table surface. They secure the component before lifting so it stays stable through the full height range.
What safety features keep the load from dropping unexpectedly?
Three things work together here. Mechanical safety latches engage automatically at 30%, 50%, and 80% of max lift height, physically holding the table at those intervals. A safety overload system prevents the lift from operating beyond 2,500 lbs. And the rear wheel locks keep the unit stationary once you've positioned it. These are passive systems - they work without any additional action from you.
