American Forge and Foundry 3180A Transmission Jack - 4,400 lb Capacity

Most transmission jacks hit their limit the moment you roll under a Class 8 truck, a loaded bus, or a piece of heavy ag iron. The american forge and foundry transmission jack changes that. The AFF 3180A carries 4,400 lbs, making it the only super heavy-duty hydraulic transmission jack in its class built to handle the removal, transport, and reinstall of transmissions, transfer cases, and differentials on the equipment that breaks lesser jacks.

The fully adjustable saddle tilts forward 15°, rearward 30°, and 12° in each lateral direction. When you're wrestling a heavy drivetrain component back into alignment on a chassis that wasn't built with your comfort in mind, that range of motion is the difference between a clean install and a frustrating one. Adjustable corner brackets let you dial in the fit further, and the saddle width adjusts from 12" to 18" so you're not guessing whether it'll cradle the housing you're working with.

The 32" handle pivots a full 360° around the pump - you pick your working angle, not the other way around. Rugged industrial-grade 4" casters keep it moving where you need it on a real shop floor. A safety overload bypass system protects the hydraulic components from damage if an unexpected load spike hits. This jack is 2009 ASME/PALD compliant, so the certification box is checked without any additional effort on your side.

This is a serious piece of equipment. Ordering through Garage Supply Guys gets you free shipping to the lower 48, and our team is standing by at (855) 498-2147 if you want to talk through the spec before you order.

Installation & Setup

Floor Requirements

At 374 lbs shipping weight, this jack ships freight and requires adequate space for delivery. Plan for a clear, level concrete floor with enough clearance for the 26" wide by 43" long footprint, plus working room around the unit. The industrial-grade 4" casters are built for real shop floors, but smooth, level concrete gives you the most control when positioning under a vehicle.

Hydraulic Setup

The 3180A operates as a standalone hydraulic floor unit - no shop air or electrical connection is required. Inspect the hydraulic system for proper fluid level before first use. The safety overload bypass system is factory-set to protect the pump circuit, so don't attempt to defeat or adjust it.

Vehicle Clearance

The jack raises from a minimum of 8-1/2" to a maximum of 34". Confirm the vehicle is positioned on a lift or elevated enough to give you the working clearance you need before beginning any drivetrain removal. Always engage vehicle safety stands before positioning the jack under the component.

Applications

The AFF 3180A is purpose-built for heavy-duty work that pushes standard transmission jacks past their rated limits. Here's where it earns its place in your bay.

Heavy-Duty Trucks

Class 7 and Class 8 commercial trucks carry transmissions that weigh far more than what a standard heavy duty transmission jack is rated for. The 4,400 lb capacity gives you the headroom to work safely without improvising.

Buses and Transit Vehicles

Bus drivetrain components are heavy, awkward, and often require precise angle adjustment during reinstall. The multi-axis tilt on the adjustable saddle handles the alignment work your shop would otherwise do by hand.

Agricultural Equipment

Tractors, combines, and heavy implements put transmission and differential weights in ranges that make this an automotive transmission jack alternative that fleet and ag shops keep on the floor full-time.

Construction and Industrial Equipment

Loader transmissions, transfer cases on large off-road equipment, and differentials on construction iron all fall within this jack's working range where lighter units simply don't belong.

Transfer Case Service

The adjustable saddle brackets and multi-directional tilt make this a go-to when you're dropping a transfer case and need to control the angle throughout the entire lowering process.

Differential R&R

Rear differentials on heavy trucks and construction vehicles come off cleanly when the jack can hold the weight and tip to match the angle of the housing - exactly what the 3180A is built to do.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of equipment is the AFF 3180A rated to handle?

The 3180A is built for heavy-duty trucks, buses, agricultural machinery, and construction equipment. It handles transmission removal and installation, transfer case service, and differential R&R where the component weight exceeds what a standard heavy duty transmission jack can safely support. Its 4,400 lb capacity covers the range of drivetrain components found on Class 7 and Class 8 commercial vehicles and large off-road equipment.

What is the minimum height clearance needed to use this jack?

The 3180A has a minimum working height of 8-1/2" and extends to a maximum of 34". The vehicle or equipment needs to be elevated on a lift or stands that provide enough clearance to position the jack under the component and allow it to rise into contact. Always confirm you have adequate vertical working room before starting any drivetrain removal procedure.

Does this transmission jack require shop air or an electrical connection?

No. The AFF 3180A is a self-contained hydraulic floor jack. It does not require shop air or any electrical connection to operate. The 32" handle drives the hydraulic pump directly, and the unit is ready to use once it arrives and is inspected for proper fluid level.

How does the saddle adjust, and do I need additional adapters?

The saddle width adjusts between 12" and 18", and the head length adjusts between 16" and 20", with adjustable corner brackets to help secure the load. The saddle tilts forward 15°, rearward 30°, and 12° in each lateral direction for alignment during installation. Call us at (855) 498-2147 to confirm what accessories or adapters are included and whether anything additional is needed for your specific application.

What does the warranty cover, and how do I make a claim?

The AFF 3180A carries a 1-year limited warranty covering defects in material and workmanship from the date of purchase. If a defect is found within that period, American Forge and Foundry will repair or replace the unit at no charge when it is returned with prepaid shipping and proof of purchase.
