American Forge and Foundry 3102A - Air Assist Transmission Jack
Pulling a transmission is already one of the heavier jobs on the floor. Doing it with a jack that fights you the whole way just adds time and frustration you don't need. The American Forge and Foundry 3102A air assist transmission jack takes that friction out of the equation. Two-stage telescopic ram, 2,000 lb rated capacity, and air-assisted lift that climbs smoothly from 37 inches to 76 - no straining, no fighting the pump through every inch.
The air assist is what separates this from a straight manual unit. Connect your shop air at 100 PSI minimum and the double pump hydraulic system does the heavy lifting for you. Fast rise when you need it, fine control on the way down. The chrome-plated pump core and piston rod keep operation smooth over years of daily use, and the powder coat finish handles the corrosives, chemicals, and scrapes that come with life in a working shop. This is the kind of american forge and foundry jack that earns its floor space on the first job.
The adjustable saddle is where this air-assisted transmission jack really shows its range. Four L-shaped arms telescope out to cradle transmissions of varying sizes and shapes. Fore-aft and side-to-side tilt adjustment let you dial in perfect alignment before the load comes free. Lock it down with the safety chain and corner bracket, and you're working with confidence instead of hoping it holds. The saddle arms can be positioned using the short or long portions of the L to fit the transmission's specific footprint.
ASME 2014 compliant. An optional Fuel Tank Adapter (Model 3198) is available for expanded capability. Ships free to the lower 48, and when you have a question about this unit before or after purchase, one call gets you a real answer: (855) 498-2147.

Installation & Setup
Air Supply Requirements
The 3102A requires a minimum of 100 PSI of compressed air to operate the air assist at full 2,000 lb capacity. Make sure your shop air supply is clean, dry, and regulated to meet that minimum before connecting. When installing your air disconnect fitting into the air valve, apply pipe tape to seal the threads and keep debris out of the air system.
Assembly
The jack ships partially disassembled. Key steps include securing the casters to the leg bases, attaching the leg assemblies to the hydraulic pump body, fitting the support rod, and mounting the saddle to the second piston rod. The full sequence is documented step by step in the included instruction manual. Basic hand tools and a wrench are all you need.
Air Purging
Air can get trapped in the hydraulic system during shipping. If the ram lifts slowly, won't reach full height, or doesn't descend smoothly, the system needs to be bled. The pump and ram each have accessible bleed screws for this purpose. The complete purging procedure is in the instruction manual - follow it before first use and any time symptoms return.
Surface and Use Requirements
Use this jack on a hard, level surface only. Support the engine with a properly rated stand before unbolting the transmission. Never use the 3102A as a vehicle lift or vehicle support. For lowering under load, use the release valve handle rather than the foot release pedal - the handle gives you fine, controlled descent; the pedal is for quick lowering without a load on the saddle. Use hydraulic jack oil only - brake fluid, alcohol, and transmission fluid will damage the seals.
Applications
Two-stage telescopic reach and 2,000 lb capacity make this the right stand-up transmission jack for medium duty truck work. The adjustable saddle arms fit the transmission's footprint, and the safety chain keeps everything locked down during the drop.
Transfer cases demand the same controlled, tilting support as a transmission. Fore-aft and side-to-side saddle adjustment lets you match the angle of the case for a clean pull without fighting the drivetrain or re-positioning mid-job.
Drop a differential with the same control you'd bring to a transmission job. The saddle cradles irregular shapes, and the release valve handle gives you precise, slow descent so nothing gets rushed or dropped.
Front-wheel drive transaxle work benefits from the tilt range this jack provides. Dial in the angle before the unit comes free and lower it at your pace - the manual release valve puts the rate of descent in your hands.
This jack is rated for removal, installation, and lowered-position transport of transmissions, transfer cases, and transaxles. It is not a vehicle lift or vehicle support. Always consult the vehicle manufacturer for the transmission center of balance before positioning the saddle.
Model Comparison
American Forge and Foundry offers four transmission jacks in this series. The 3052 and 3052A handle 1,100 lb loads; the 3102 and 3102A step up to 2,000 lbs. If you want air assist efficiency at either capacity level, the A-suffix models are the choice. The 3102A - this product - is the 2,000 lb air assist configuration.

Frequently Asked Questions
What air pressure does the AFF 3102A require to lift a full 2,000 lb load?
A minimum of 100 PSI of compressed air is required to operate the air assist at the full 2,000 lb rated capacity. Make sure your shop air supply is clean, dry, and regulated to at least 100 PSI before connecting. If shop air isn't available, the jack can also be operated manually using the foot pump pedal - you just won't have the air assist function.
What drivetrain components is this jack rated to handle?
The AFF 3102A is specifically built for the removal, installation, and lowered-position transport of transmissions, transfer cases, and transaxles - focused on medium duty truck applications. It is not rated for use as a vehicle lift or vehicle support device under any circumstances. Always support the engine with a rated stand before unbolting the transmission from it.
Is assembly required, and how involved is it?
Yes, some assembly is required. The jack ships with the legs, casters, saddle, and hardware packaged separately. The process involves securing casters to the leg bases, attaching the legs to the hydraulic pump body, installing the support rod assembly, and mounting the saddle to the second piston rod. It's straightforward work with basic hand tools and a wrench. The step-by-step sequence is documented in the included instruction manual. After assembly, you may also need to purge air from the hydraulic system if it became trapped during shipping - the manual covers that procedure as well.
Does the 3102A ship for free?
Yes. The AFF 3102A ships free to all addresses in the contiguous lower 48 states. No freight charges, no handling fees. If you have questions about your order or delivery, call us at (855) 498-2147.
